Therapist profile: Caroline Hounsell
ABOUT CAROLINE
As a Member of the BACP (British
Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists), she runs a private
psychotherapy practice in various locations throughout Sussex. Although her work is based on Person Centred
Psychotherapy, she takes an holistic and integrative view with her clients,
allowing her to use a mixture of approaches according to her client’s
needs. Caroline also has regular
professional supervision and support to enable her to work more effectively
with her clients and keep abreast of developments in theory and research.
She is also an important member of the
National Training Group responsible for devising and delivering two of today’s
most highly regarded mental health courses, which are:- ASIST (Applied Suicide
Awareness Skills Training) and MHFA (Mental Health First Aid).
Caroline spent a number of years working
with children and adults as a careers consultant and counsellor. During this period, she often worked with
young people and young adults, who were either at risk or dealing with
substantial stress and trauma. This led
to her interest in the process of decision making and the life factors that
influence an individual’s views. She
observed that clients who concentrated their energies in a positive direction
were more likely to flourish.
Today she is a strong believer in
preventative work, empowering people to focus on caring for themselves, rather
than waiting for a crisis. She is also a
strong advocate for reducing the stigma that still surrounds mental health.
